1991: Began training

1996: Began teaching at Mullingar Karate Club

2002: Joined the JKS

2003: Achieved rank of 2nd Dan under Sensei Masao Kagawa

2008: Achieved rank of 3rd Dan under Sensei Masao Kagawa


Alan Smith started his shotokan training in 1991, he was 11 years of age.

In just 4 years he achieved the grade of 1st dan black belt.

At 16 he began teaching at his first club in Mullingar

Since then Alan has opened clubs in Longford, Kinnegad and Moate.

Alan received his 2nd and 3rd dan black belt in 2003 and 2008. He is one of a small group of students in Ireland with a grade from Sensei Kagawa (JKS technical director).

Alan has won many national championships and finished 3rd in two european championships in Germany and England.

Alan has travelled to Japan (the home of shotokan karate) to train under some of the worlds best instructors.
